Amy grew up with a special love of horses, one in which she never outgrew!

Leaving school, all she wanted was a line of work involving these magnificent animals. She started as an exercise and competition rider, along with working and competing her own horses, competing in various disciplines including British Eventing, Showjumping, and was lucky enough to show for a top stud yard where she gained vast knowledge in this area also.

She then went on to have a great interest in working with more problem and challenging horses, taking on individual horses and working one on one to overcome their problem/s. This is where she learnt how much saddle fit can effect a horses behaviour and was keen to learn more about correct saddle fit and how it can effect a horses behaviour, performance and general way of going.

Amy had always had an interest in saddles and tack from a young age. She knew the ins and outs of most tack from personal use. Although before going into saddle fitting training she knew that it would be beneficial to start by learning the basics about leather, and the way both bridle-work and saddles are constructed to have a better understanding of what she would be working with.

Amy went on to complete various bridle-work and repair training with two fabulous Qualified Master Saddlers at Saddlery Training Scotland.

She started Amy Coupland Saddlery in 2015 and after 4 years in the  leather work industry decided she had the correct background knowledge to then move on to learn about fitting. In this time not only has she provided various bespoke tack for clients, she also specialised in working highlands and deer stalking ponies.

Another great accomplishment is her work has been starred on various films/series including The Crown, Vigil and more upcoming productions.

Amy gained vast knowledge by travelling the UK attending talks and seminars, where she met Jochen Schleese, a qualified German Master Saddler, CEE, CSE, who then went on to do years of his own extensive research into saddle fit, equine and human anatomy and bio-mechanics and saddle manufacture. She was extremely lucky to be able to travel to and train in South Africa in 2019 with Jochen and his team and then came back to Scotland to completed an externship until qualifying in September 2020. After returning home she then completed her flocking and altertations training with UK Saddlery School of leathercraft, fully qualified by Society of Master Saddlers.

She has been travelling and fitting throughout Scotland and Northern England since meeting some fantastic horses and owners along the way! For further fitting info please visit "Saddle Fitting Service
